RYA Powerboat Advanced Course aims:

The RYA Powerboat Advanced course will provide you with an greater understanding of boat handling and navigating. You will execute passages at high speeds, day or night, and heavier weathers (weather dependent). This course will build on your existing skills to give you the ability to be confident on powerboats in various conditions. It also helps prepare you for the MCA/RYA Advanced Powerboat Exam.  At the end of the two days, you will gain the RYA Powerboat Advanced course completion certificate.

Powerboat Advanced Course content:

The RYA Powerboat Advanced course covers a broad range of subjects aimed at developing your skills and confidence as a skipper. This includes techniques for planning, day and night navigation and pilotage into various harbours. You will revise different man over board recovery techniques and discuss hypothermia and cold water shock. You will learn how to create and carry out a variety of search patterns. There will be advanced powerboat handling in a range of wind and tide conditions. We also try and find some waves so you can learn how to handle the boat safely in rougher seas. You will also revise collision regulations and meteorology at sea.

Course pre-requisites:

You will need practical experience of coastal passage making and high speed boat handling and preferably the RYA Intermediate Powerboat Certificate. You will also need an understanding of chart work and navigation to Yachtmaster Theory level, preferably the RYA Yachtmaster Theory certificate. If you are lacking night navigation experience then we can recommend the RYA Tender Operator Course.  It is strongly recommended you hold a VHF SRC certificate and a valid First Aid certificate.

Please note the RYA Advanced Powerboat course completion certificate can not be commercially endorsed. If you would like to get your ticket commercially endorsed then you will need to do the RYA / MCA Advanced Powerboat Certificate of Competence exam.
