RYA Helmsman course aims
This is a beginners' motor cruising course. The Helmsman Certificate course provides an introduction to motor cruising vessels and builds confidence, giving you the skills to be a capable crew member and a proficient helmsman.
Course content:
The RYA Helmsman course covers the following topics:
- safety and seamanship
- engine operation and maintenance
- boat preparation
- boat handling
- securing to a buoy
- berthing alongside and leaving
- man overboard
- anchoring
Course pre-requisites:
No previous experience is required to enrol on this course. Minimum age is 12 years old.
