RYA Motor Cruising Instructor Power Course aims:

The RYA Cruising Instructor Power course will enable experienced Yachtmaster Offshore skippers to teach the RYA Motor Cruising scheme up to the Day Skipper certificate. This is the first rung of the teaching ladder for Motor Cruisers before you become a Yachtmaster Instructor. On successful completion of the course you will be able to effectively pass on your skills by providing a high standard of tuition.

Cruising Instructor Course content: 

This course will revise the skills needed to teach up to Day Skipper level, but due to the short duration of the course there is limited opportunity to fill any gaps in knowledge, hence please make sure that before the start of the course, you thoroughly revise your ColRegs, meteorology and all aspects of tidal navigation. The course will assess your knowledge while providing a structured framework to instruct, coach, observe and deliver the RYA Start Motor Cruising, Helmsman and Day Skipper Practical courses.  On the last day you will be assessed by a second Trainer to make sure the high standards of the RYA are being maintained.

Cruising Instructor Course pre-requisites:

Your knowledge should be above that of Yachtmaster Offshore level to provide a high quality of service to your students. They will often ask questions outside the remit of the core syllabus, so you will need lots of enthusiasm and a wide range of experience to maintain credibility. You must also hold a commercially endorsed RYA / MCA Yachtmaster Offshore Certificate of Competence as well as an in date First Aid Certificate, VHF Short Range Certificate, Sea Survival, PPR and medical. You will also need a working knowledge of radar and diesel engines and we would recommend attending the RYA Radar and Diesel Engine courses. After enrolling on to the Cruising Instructor course there is an online pre-course knowledge check which will be arranged after booking.
