Yachtmaster Theory Course aims:

To provide clients with an advanced understanding of traditional methods of navigation in offshore tidal waters. This course is strongly recommended for anyone considering either the Yachtmaster Coastal or Offshore practical course.  One of the most common causes of Yachtmaster practical exam failure is a poor understanding of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS) and the traditional methods of navigation.  This course is designed to make sure that you are adequately prepared and ready to apply these principles if you progress on to take the practical exam.

Course content:

The course covers IRPCS, tidal heights and stream and secondary ports, EP’s and Course to Steer.  Meteorology, advanced pilotage, clearing bearings, and passage planning by day or night will be discussed in detail.  The course is taught in our spacious classroom at Chichester Marina.

Course pre-requisites:

A moderate understanding of chart work and navigation at sea equivalent to Day Skipper level, preferably having previously completed the Day Skipper Shorebased course.
