Course aims: To provide clients with an advanced understanding of traditional methods of navigation in offshore tidal waters. This course is strongly recommended for anyone considering either the Yachtmaster Coastal practical course, or the Yachtmaster Offshore Exam. One of the most common causes of Yachtmaster practical exam failure is a poor understanding of the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collisions at Sea (IRPCS) and/or the traditional methods of navigation The Yachtmaster theory course is designed to make sure that you are adequately prepared and ready to apply these principles if you subsequently choose to take the practical exam.

Course content: The course covers IRPCS, tidal heights and secondary ports, tidal streams, EP’s, Course to Steer, detailed meteorology, advanced pilotage, clearing bearings, and passage planning by day or night.  All taught in our spacious classroom at Chichester Marine Training.

Course pre-requisites: A moderate understanding of chart work and navigation at sea equivalent to Day Skipper level, preferably having previously completed the Day Skipper Shorebased course.
