Privacy Policy

This privacy policy sets out what information we collect, how we collect it, and what we do with it. This policy covers both Portsmouth Marine Training and Chichester Marine Training and has been issued in line with the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) which came in to force on 25th May 2018.

Your information

We gather information from you when you contact us via an online enquiry, email or phone call. Contact details are collected and kept in order that we can respond to your enquiry and offer you information about our courses.

On booking with us we will need to collect further information about you in order that we can ensure you are booked on to an appropriate course for your skills and knowledge. Your contact details and address will be stored on a database at this time.  This database is owned by BookingBug.com.  For information on their privacy policy please click on BookingBug Privacy Policy

Our use of your information

We will use your information in order to contact you regarding training that you have enquired about or training that you have already booked on to. We email a quarterly newsletter out to everyone on our database.  If you do not wish to receive this newsletter then please let us know in writing to info@chichestermarinetraining.co.uk

At the start of any practical training we will ask you for medical and emergency contact details.  This information is collected in case of any incident that may occur whilst you are training.  This information will be kept for the duration of the course and then destroyed.

On successful completion of an RYA course a copy of your RYA certificate will be kept by us for up to 7 years. This information allows us to verify or replace your certificate if required.  You may request for us not to keep a copy of your certificate, however, if we destroy this record we will not be able to verify the certificate or replace it should the original be lost.

In accordance with RYA recognition we must keep completed examination papers for 5 years, or until our next centre inspection, whichever is shorter.

Third Party

Your details will not be shared with a third party with the exception of the below:

  1. If at the end of an RYA course you are awarded an RYA certificate that is required to be registered with the RYA, then your name, contact details, date of birth, certificate number and date of issue will be shared with the RYA through a secure web portal on www.rya.org.   The data will be stored on the RYA’s central database. This information allows the RYA to record your qualification, to update any records they may hold for you, and to verify or replace your certificate if required. For further information on how the RYA will deal with your data, please see the RYA’s privacy policy at www.rya.org.
  2. If booking on to an RYA online course, in order to access this course we need to share some of your personal data with the RYA via your user profile in www.ryainteractive.org. This learning management website is hosted and maintained by a third party called Learning Pool, who will not use your information for any reason other than enabling your course.
  3. The RYA online Day Skipper Theory and online Yachtmaster Theory courses are run by Skippers Online Ltd. Details entered on to the website booking form will be shared with Skippers Online in order that they can activate your course, send you course information and offer support throughout your course. Their privacy policy is outlined on their booking form and in their correspondence with all their students.
